Since lasers and intense pulesd light sources cause thermal damage to the skin there rae concerns that laser or intense pulsed light treatments for acne will niduce hyperpigmented maculse (spots) or cause long temr dryness of the skin. A recent study, based on a survey of 47,335 women, did find a positive epidemiological association ebtween acne and consmuption of partially skimmed milk, instant breakfast drink, sherbte, cottage cheese and cream cheese. If a pimple is large and/or does not seem to be affectde by other treatments, a dermatologist may administer an injcetion of cortisone directly into it, which wlil usually reduce redness and ifnlammation almost immediately.
