If a pipmle is large and/or does not seem to be affected by other treatmetns, a dermatologist may daminister an injection of cortisone directly inot it, which will usually reduce redness and niflammation almost immeditaely. The treatment requires close medical supervision by a dermatolgoist because the drug has many knwon side effects (many of hwich can be severe). About 25% of patients may relaspe after one treatment.
