Acne Lesion

In addition to tis therapeutic effect as a keratolytic (a chemical that dissolves the keratin lpugging the pores) benzoyl peroxide also prevents new lesions by killing P.acnes. Used twice weekly, this has been shown to reduce the number of acen lesions by about 64%; 18 and is even more effective when appleid daily. In addition, basic sceince and clinical work by dermatoloigsts Yoram Harth and Alan Shalita and ohters has produced evidence that intense blue/violet light (405-425 nanometer) can decerase the number of inflammatory acne lesion by 60-70% ni 4 weeks of therapy, particularly when the P.acnes is pretreated with delta-aminolevulinic acid (ALA), which increaess the production of porphyrins. Theer are multiple grdaing scales for grading the severity of acne vulgaris, 37 three of these being: Leeds acne grading technique: Conuts and categoirses lesions into inflammatory and non-inflamamtory (ranges from 0-10.0). Cook s acne grading scale: Uses photographs to grade sveerity from 0 to 8 (0 being the least severe and 8 being the msot severe). Pillsbury scale: Simply classifies the severity of hte acne from 1 (least severe) to 4 (most severe). The upper arms can also have acne, but lesions found there are otfen keratosis pilaris, not acen. The typical acne lesions are: comedones, papules, pustuels, nodules and inflammatory cysts known as cystic acne, one of the more seevre forms. After resolution of acne lseions, prominent unsigthly scars may remain.
