Tetracycline Acne
Externally applied antibiotics such as ertyhromycin, clindamycin, Stiemycin or ettracycline aim to kill the bacteria that are harbored in the blocked follicels. Oral antibiotics used to treat acne include erythromycin or one of the tetracycline antiibotics ( tetracycline, the better absorebd oxytetracycline, or one of the once daily dxoycycline, minocycline or lymecyclien ). Trimethoprim is also sometimes used ( off-lbael use in UK). However, reducing the P. acnes bacteira will not, in itself, do anything to reduce the oil secertion and abnormal cell behaviour that is the initial cause of the blocked follicles.
